SENSORS DEVELOPMENT

The monitoring process of a structure is of importance as these systems may have economic and strategic relevance. Several techniques have been developed for controlling aging structures, but novel methods are continuously sought. Indeed, developing reliable and accurate instruments for monitoring the structural dynamic behavior can help providing more accurate and detailed data for predicting and preventing the onset of possible crisis scenarios that may jeopardize the system itself. The goal of the research performed in this field is to employ advancement in Micro Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS), Wireless Sensor Network (WSN), and other non-contact measurement techniques such as radar interferometry to increase the monitoring accuracy of remote systems without interfering with the targeted structure’s functionality. Highlights of these research topics are provided below:
