Thinking of an Accounting Internship??

For full information please see the syllabus but here are some key items

Information at a glance

  • You may be eligible for an accounting internship after you have completed at least one upper-level (3000-level or above) accounting course with a grade of C or higher. In most cases this upper-level accounting course will be Corporate Financial Reporting I (formerly Intermediate I).
  • The internship can be used to fulfill a 3-credit 3000-level Manning School of Business (MSB) elective or free elective
  • The internship cannot replace any required accounting course.
  • The internship class uses the grading scale of Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory. See the syllabus for the full requirements.
  • Students are allowed one internship for class credit at UML so you are not able to take a second internship for class credit (in Finance, for example).
  • The internship period cannot officially start until the internship application is APPROVED by the internship coordinator in the accounting department.
    • You may have started working at your internship place of employment prior to approval but the time of the internship for class credit does not begin until your application has been approved. For class credit, only the time you work AFTER your application has been approved and you are registered will be considered part of your internship required hours.
  • Your internship should run continuously once it begins and should run approximately 120 hours.
  • If your accounting internship application is approved you will receive an email with a permission number from the internship coordinator to register for the Internship Class. If you are not registered you will not receive credit.
  • All the paperwork must be completed and you need to be registered for the course using a permission number before the end of the drop/add period for the appropriate semester, or you will not receive credit for the course.

For example, if the internship period is in the Fall 2020 you would need to register before the
end of the drop/add period in the Fall 2020 semester.

  • Retroactive credit for past internship situations that have ended will not be approved.
  • After reading the syllabus and reviewing the application please email Cassandra_Rohland@uml.edu with any questions.
