University Level Service:

  • 2019-2023        Faculty Senator, representing the Plastics Engineering Department at UML.
  • 2016               COE Faculty Member, NSF NRT Proposal Planning Meetings for Engineering-wide January 2018 proposal submission (12 meetings/year).
  • 2016               COE Participant, STEM Articulation and Alignment Summit with Middlesex Community College faculty.
  • 2014-2015     COE Member, Perry Hall Renovations Planning Committee. (12 meetings/year).
  • 2012-2015      Faculty Member, Planning for Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences Program.
  • 2008-2012      Member, Emerging Technologies & Innovation Center (ETIC) Building Advisory Group, worked with architects AGI Abbie Gregg, Inc., and CUH2A to design and outfit the Nano-Bio Lab (ETIC 204) and the Nano-Bio Clean room (ETIC 100).
  • 2008-2011      Faculty Senator representing the Plastics Engineering Department at UML.
  • 2008-2009      Member, Communications Committee, UML Nanomanufacturing Center.
  • 2007-2009      Co-advisor to Society for Women Engineers (SWE), co-advisor with Prof. Carol Barry for the UML student SWE chapter.

Department Level Service:

  • Jan 2018-present    Associate Chair of PhD Graduate Programs., monitored the progress of each PhD student to ensure academic success and worked in concert with Faculty advisors to monitor their progress. Administered PhD qualifying examination (~16 students/year).
  • 2016-present            Graduate Student Recruitment, in collaboration with the Graduate Student office, participated in recruitment Webinars to prospective international graduate students into our PhD degree programs. (2 sessions/year).
  • 2016- Jun 2018         Associate Chair of MS Graduate Programs., Faculty advisor for non-thesis MS degree and Graduate Certificate programs (~150 students/year). Developed MS degree brochure for graduate student recruitment at Open houses and PlastIndia.
  • 2017-2018                 Member, Faculty Search Committee, evaluated 100+ resumes, conducted 40+ phone interviews and 12 on-site interviews of faculty candidates. Recommended hire of 4 tenure-track Plastics Engineering Faculty for FY19:

  • 2017-present         Chair, Department Graduate Committee, reviewed and implemented Graduate Co-op program for students in the Master’s degree program in Plastics Engineering.
  • 2015-2016                Undergraduate and Transfer Coordinator, Faculty advisor to incoming freshmen in the BS degree program as well as to students transferring into the program (for a total ~60 students/year).
  • 2014-present          Faculty Marshal, attended Commencement every year (undergraduate and/or graduate sessions) to guide and oversee graduates during the procession.
  • 2013-present          Member, Department Personnel Committee, reviewed promotion, tenure, sabbatical and leave of absence requests from Faculty in Plastics Engineering.
  • 2007-present          Member, Department Undergraduate Committee, reviewed and implemented improvements to Plastics Engineering Undergraduate curriculum for ABET accreditation.
  • 2007-present          Member, Department Facilities Committee, worked with department Chair to coordinate the renovations of OH403B for the Polymer Science undergraduate laboratories. Coordinated with the Assoc. Dean of Graduate Studies to identify and accommodate laboratory swing space for Chemical Engineering Faculty for research space in ETIC 214 and for Chemistry and Civil Engineering Faculty for teaching space in OH403B during Olney and Perry Hall renovations, respectively.
  • 2016-2017              Dean’s List Participant, Plastics Engineering (~60 students/year).
  • 2015-2016              Faculty Search Committee Member, solicited, screened and interviewed Faculty candidates for two tenure-track positions in the Plastics department.
  • 2013-2014              Vice Chair, Plastics Engineering ABET Review Committee     (4 meetings/year). Assisted Chair in developing and implementing the ABET Review Committee (ARC) to review Student Outcome Performance Assessment (SOPA) for continuous improvement.
  • 2011-2016              Honors Advisor, Plastics Engineering, Honors College.
  • 2011                        Coordinated (with Prof. Malloy) the renovations of the Polymer Science Laboratory (Olney 403B).
  • 2010-2016              Faculty Advisor for NSF REU students each summer.
  • 2010-present        Guest Lecturer in numerous courses in the Departments of Plastics Engineering and Biomedical Engineering.
  • 2012     Plastics Engineering Representative on the Ph.D., in Pharmaceutical Sciences Program.
  • 2011     Faculty Representative of Plastics Engineering on Honors Council subcommittee on Scholarships.
  • 2011     University Marshal at University of Massachusetts, Commencement Ceremony.

  • 2008     US-Ireland International Collaboration:  As one of only 5 researchers from UML, took part in a 8 day visit to Queens’ University, Belfast, Northern Ireland and Dublin City University (DCU) and Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.  The purpose of the visit was to explore possible programmatic, scholarship and research collaboration between faculty and students at the respective institutions.
  • 2007-2009  Co-advisor to Society for Women Engineers (SWE) served as co-advisor with Prof. Carol Barry for the UML student SWE chapter.
  • 2007-2008  Member, UMASS Life Sciences Task Force for Shared Research & Development.
  • 2007-present   Open house participant (typically twice every year) for the Department of Plastics Engineering, giving department tours to students, prospective students and their parents and explaining the programs of study and research available.
