Bio

Yuanchang Xie received his Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering in 2007 from Texas A&M University – College Station.  He is now a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Massachusetts (UMass) Lowell. His current research focuses on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), transportation safety, traffic control and simulation, and data analytics. Dr. Xie has published over 60 peer-reviewed journal and conference articles in these areas and received three Transportation Research Board (TRB) best paper awards.

Dr. Xie has served as the PI/Co-PI of over 30 externally funded projects sponsored by the US Department of Transportation (USDOT), National Science Foundation (NSF), New England Transportation Consortium (NETC), Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT), etc. Currently, he serves as an Associate Editor of ‘Accident Analysis & Prevention,’ a top international journal focusing on safety. Dr. Xie previously served as a member of the TRB Transportation Safety Management Committee (ANB10) and a member and the paper review coordinator of TRB Transportation of Hazardous Materials Committee (AT040). Now he is a member of the TRB Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Computing Applications Committee (AED50). He also co-leads the AED50 committee paper review task force.
