Juan obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Barcelona researching single-molecule bioelectronics and electrochemistry. He did a postdoc in the University of California Davis, developing new methods for the electrical detection of oligonucleotides using nanoscience tools. In a second postdoctoral experience funded by the European Research Council in the VU Amsterdam, he explored new spectroscopy methods for the study of ultrafast biophysical phenomena, such as photosynthesis.
