Hualiang Zhang’s Short Biography

Hualiang (Bruce) Zhang is currently an Associate Professor, at the ECE Despartment, University of Massachusetts Lowell (UML). From Sep. 2015 to Jan. 2016, he was an Associate Professor (with tenure) at the EE Department, University of North Texas (UNT). From Sep. 2009 to Aug. 2015, he was an Assistant Professor at UNT. From April 2007 to Aug. 2009, he was a postdoctoral research associate at the Millimeter Wave Circuits and Antennas Laboratory, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, USA, in the group of Dr. Hao Xin.

Before he came to US, Hualiang lived in Wuhan (his hometown in China) for 18 years. He then received his bachelor degree (a five-year program) in electrical engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, China, in 2003. After that, he moved to HongKong (the pearl of the orient) and got his PhD degree in the area of microwave engineering from HongKong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in Jan. 2007. At HKUST, he worked in Dr. Kevin J. Chen‘s group.

Hualiang entered the field of applied electromagnetics when he was a third-year undergraduate student at USTC. At that time, he worked in Dr. Qi Zhu’s group and became familiar with this area. Due to this research experience, he was admitted to the PhD program in ECE Dept., HKUST, under the supervision of Dr. Chen. He became a self-motivated researcher at HKUST. His research covered design, fabrication and characterization of RF/microwave circuits at both board- and chip-levels. At the University of Arizona, Hualiang worked with Dr. Xin continuing his resarch in this field. Since he joined the UNT in 2009, his research has been further expanded to a wider spectrum range, covering high-frequency electromagnetic components and systems working at RF/microwave, millimeter-wave, THz, IR, and visible.
