Bio

Phitsamay Sychitkokhong Uy is Associate Professor in the College of Education and Co-director of the Center for Asian American Studies at University of Massachusetts-Lowell. She has over 25 years of teaching experience ranging from kindergarten to graduate students. Dr. Uy has worked as a diversity trainer for the Anti-Defamation League, professional development facilitator for school districts, community organizer and research and evaluation consultant for colleges and universities.  She is the current associate editor of Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement. Her research focuses on Southeast Asian American educational experiences and family and community engagement. Dr. Uy was the first Lao American refugee to receive her education doctorate from Harvard Graduate School of Education and she is the first tenured Lao American faculty member in a College of Education in the United States.  She also serves on several community board of directors i.e., Institute for Asian American Studies at UMass- Boston, Mass Humanities, the Nisei Student Relocation Commemorative Fund (NSRCF), and Pencils of Promise.  Dr. Uy is a member of University of Michigan’s Diversity Scholar Network.
