How to Use Previous Recordings for a Course

The Echo360 platform, by default, operates as a closed system. That means that only UML students can view recordings for courses that they are registered, for any particular semester.

While this is a good security measure, it does not take into account the exceptions such as you wanting to use a previous semester’s recordings or readily sharing a recording with someone outside of UML.

There are several ways to address these situations:

  • Copy a public link to a particular recording. You can make the link truly public (anyone can view and/or share the URL to that recording) OR you can restrict the recording, limiting it to students at UML.
  • Publish individual recordings to the current semester’s course. This will still maintain the security features.
  • Copy (clone the recordings) to another semester. This is good for an entire course, rather than individual recordings. This will still maintain the security features as well.

Copy a link to a specific recording
Log into Echo360.org with your UML credentials. You are in your Echo Library containing all of your recordings. Clicking on the title of a recording OR clicking on the three dots on the right side of the thumbnail, select Share.

For either case, now click on Links which will generate a public URL/link for that particular recording. Click on Copy and Done, then paste that link into whatever you are going to share with someone.

Note: A public link can be shared with anyone and does NOT check that they are a student.

Publish individual, older recordings to the current semester-
Find the video in your Echo360 Library. Click on the title of the recording you wish to publish and go to Share, then click on Class.

Choose from the drop-down list of your current courses, select it and also the section.

Choose New Class.

Enter a name for the recording and select Share to complete the process.

Note: you can also choose availability of the recording by changing the date the recording is or isn’t available.

Copy/Clone a course
If you want to share an entire semester’s worth of course recordings, you can clone an entire course section to a new section.

Click on Courses within your Echo Library and find the course and section you want to clone. Click on the thumbnail icon which will then show you a list of the recordings. Click on Settings, then Features. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and select Clone.

You now have a choice whether to copy the recordings over with the dates and times listed OR copy them with only the titles. See more info here: https://learn.echo360.com/hc/en-us/articles/360035036012-Cloning-Sections-for-Instructors-
