Why retain class recordings?
Older recordings can be invaluable for both you and your students. Here are some examples:
While recordings made in either Echo360 or Zoom (using cloud storage) are stored on their respective platform, there is not unlimited storage available. Because of this, there are retention policies in place. Please see our general policy below.
Recorded lectures will be kept for one year from their date of recording. After this time, recordings will be placed in an archival area for one year, then permanently deleted. Recordings older than 1 year will be automatically archived twice per year, in January and July. Recordings can be retained in an active state for a longer period of time if prior arrangements have been made with the Instructional Technology Services group.
Faculty who are using recorded lectures to supplement an online course must contact the Instructional Technology Services group and identify the course name and number to keep those recordings active, otherwise they are first archived then deleted after 2 years from the original recording date. Once recordings are archived, but unavailable for viewing, they can be republished by contacting the ITS group to determine the best storage and delivery options. If the faculty member desires to retain the content for archival purposes longer then the terms outlined in this policy, then he/she will be responsible identifying the content and requesting long term archival from the Instructional Technology Services group.
Recordings can be edited on the lecture capture server up to 30 days after the recording date to remove undesired material or conversations by either faculty or by an authorized operator of the lecture capture system. After that time, these recordings are automatically compressed and cannot be edited.
Zoom recordings can be stored two different ways:
Zoom cloud recordings are accessed two different ways:
Zoom cloud recordings stored in the Zoom cloud are retained for 120 days when first recorded and are automatically erased.
