Research Overview

Dr. Fantasia’s research interests include the intersection of violence and the reproductive health of women. She has been the principal or co-investigator on grants examining screening for sexual and intimate partner violence in college health centers, sexual consent negotiaton, reproductive coercion, and the effects of partner violence on contraceptive use and sexual risk behaviors.

2014 – 2016  Sutherland, M.A. & Fantasia, H.C. “Violence Screening in College Health Centers”  R03HD080195, National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Principal Investigator: M. Sutherland: $100,000. Role: Co-investigator. Responsible for conceptual study design, grant writing, management of University of Massachusetts Lowell subcontract, data collection.  Project funded 12/1/14-11/20/16

Fantasia: $13,000. Role: Principal Investigator: Responsible for grant writing, study design, recruitment, oversight of research staff. Project funded 1/5/15-12/31/15

2014  Sutherland, M.A. & Fantasia, H.C. “Violence Screening among College Women: Predictors and Missed Opportunities.” Descriptive, cross-sectional web-based survey of college women in their senior year, recruited from 2 universities in Massachusetts. Additional data for R03 resubmission. University of Massachusetts Lowell start-up funds. Role: Co-Principal Investigator. In conjunction with Co-PI, responsible for study design, methodology, recruitment, and data analysis.

Fontenot. Role: Co- Principal Investigator. In conjunction with research team, responsible for study design and methodology, oversight of graduate research students, and data analysis.
